If you need a recipe to impress, poached pears are the perfect dessert. It one of those dishes that will make people think you actually did something but really you just put some sugar water on the stove and folded the laundry until it done. 

What You Need For This Recipe

  • Firm Pears, like Bosc, D'Anjou
  • Water
  • Amaretto
  • Sugar
  • Star Anise
  • Cinnamon Sticks
  • Ginger Root
  • Whole Cloves

What Is Poaching

Poaching is submersing food, such as firm fruit, eggs and salmon, in simmering liquid. Some recipes call for just water but can also include broths, vinegar, simple syrup, milk, stock, wine or liquor. Aromatics are add to infuse flavor and the left over liquid can be reduce for sauce to further compliment the dish.

How to Make Make Amaretto Poached Pears

For this recipe we are using simple syrup made with sugar, water and amaretto liquor. I also add a few warm aromatics, cinnamon, clove, ginger and star anise. Once your pears are tender, don't toss away the left over liquid. Once it's reduced, it makes a beautiful sauce to top on ice cream.

Tips On How To Make This Recipe

  • The cook time is 45 mins, however you may need more or less time depending on the firmness of your pears. 
  • Feel free to use what ever aromatics you prefect.
  • Don't toss the remaining liquid. Drizzle it over some ice cream or on a slice of cake.
